Contact Lenses Pre-Fitting ConsiderationsThe most important pre-fitting consideration is motivation, Why do you want to use contact lenses? if you have strong reason for wearing contact lenses you will look after them better. People with aniridia are often motivated to wear contact lenses because their photophobia is difficult to control with sunglasses. they may be further motivated to wear contact lenses to resolve refractive errors such as nearsightedness and farsightedness. If the individual does not have a refractive error and their photophobia is managable with sunglasses contact lenses would not be necessary. A break down of movitation ConsiderationsOptical: Will contacts improve visual function by correcting visual function and reducing distortion? Physiological : Are they needed to manage both aphakia (no having a lenses due to cataract surgery) ? Are they needed to optically smooth an anterior corneal surface made irregular by disease, trauma, or surgery? Cosmetic: Would the individual have to otherwise wear glasses? with large prescription? Are they need to masking an unattractive corneal scar or partial aniridia or providing an artificial pupil for total aniridia? Situations where contact lenses may not be appropriateThe following situations mean that caution be take when using contact lenses and it may be advisable to not where contact lenses.
